A description might reveal a dangerous new world. Instructions might help another character survive. A persuasive piece might win an ally. A story might determine what happens next.
Behind the adventure, however, is serious teaching. Skills are explicitly modelled, practised and revisited before pupils are expected to use them independently. Grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction and composition are taught as tools that help pupils become better writers rather than disconnected exercises to complete.
The result is a curriculum designed to combine engagement with rigour: pupils know why they are writing, while teachers know exactly what they are teaching.
